How to Yarn Over- Knitting

The Knitted Cast-on Method

Rabbecca “Becky” Bunny- FREE PATTERN!

I made this bunny for my Grandmother’s 77th birthday, which is on Easter Sunday. I named her Rabbecca (lol) “Becky” Bunny. Enjoy!

Materials:

Cascade 220 Yarn in white, light pink and blue. Any color for the bow.

4 US size 5 double-pointed knitting needles.

Tapestry needle for weaving

Poly-fiber stuffing.

Measuring tape

Measurements: 

10″ tall and 4 1/2″ wide

Scissors

Abbreviations:

K-knit

KFB- Knit in the front and back of a single stitch

K2tog- knit two stitches together.

BO- Bind off

Starting from the bottom of the body, working up:

With white- Cast-on 9 stitches. Spread those 9 stitches over 3 needles and join in the round. You should have 3 stitches on each needle. Place a stitch marker at the slip-knot. This will be the beginning of each round.

KFB in all sts

K

K4, KFB in last two stitches on the first needle. Repeat for the following two needles

K6, KFB in last 2 sts on first needle. Repeat for the following two needles

K

K9, KFB of last st on first needle. Repeat for following two needles

K 10, KFB on last st on first needle. Repeat for following two needles.

Place a stitch marker at the beginning of the next round:

K until body measures 4″

K to last 2 sts on first needle, K2tog. Repeat for the following two needles.

Repeat 2 times.

K 2 rounds

K to last 2 sts on first needle, K2tog. Repeat for the following two needles.

Repeat 2 times

K

K to last 2 sts on first needle, K2tog. Repeat for the following two needles.

Repeat 1 time

K 2 rounds

Begin stuffing the body

K to the last st on the needle, KFB in last st. Repeat for following two needles.

Repeat until there are 12 stitches on each needle.

K for 1″

K to last 2 sts, K2tog on first needle. Repeat for the following two needles.

Repeat until there are 3 sts on each needle.

Cut yarn tail and weave onto a tapestry needle. Weave through the remaining sts and close them. Weave ends into the body.

ARMS:

Pick up 3 stitches each on three needles in a triangular pattern. Refer to pictures for arm placement. Place a stitch marker at the beginning of the round.

k for 1 1/2″

K1, K2tog on the first needle. Repeat for the following two needles.

lightly stuff the arm

Cut yarn, weave onto a tapestry needle. Weave through remaining stitches and close tight.

LEGS:

Pick up 4 stitches each on three needles in a triangular pattern. Refer to pictures for leg placement. Place a stitch marker at the beginning of the round.

K until leg measures 2″

K2, K2tog on first needle. Repeat for the following two needles.

K1, K2tog on the first needle. Repeat for the following two needles.

Cut yarn, weave onto a tapestry needle. Weave through remaining stitches and close tight.

EARS:

Refer to photo for ear placement and how to pick up sts. On one needle, pick up 5 sts. Directly behind the first needle, pick up 5 sts. Knit from front to back.

On front needle, K1 with White, With pink K3, change to white- K1

On the back needle- always use white- k all 5 sts.

KFB in 1st 2 sts (making sure to use the right color) K to last 2 sts, KFB in last 2 sts. On back needle KFB in 1st 2 stitches, K to last 2 sts, KFB in last 2 sts.

K each round from now on even. Be careful to knit the first 2 and last two stitches in white and the rest in pink on the front needle.

Cotton-tail:

Pick up 4 stitches each on three needles in a triangular pattern. Refer to pictures for tail placement. Place a stitch marker at the beginning of the round.

K 3 rounds

Stuff lightly

K to last 2 sts, K2tog on first needle. Repeat for the following 2 needles.

repeat until there are 2 sts left on each needle.

Cut yarn, weave onto a tapestry needle. Weave through remaining stitches and close tight.

With one needle, Cast on 12 sts

Tie bow in the middle twice and attach to the ear.
